2024 XC Race Dates

Online entry for races except under 12s, 10s and 8s is available via British Cycling for Event1. Childrens races can entered on the day. All other races need to be entered online 24 hours before the start. The start times on this page are due to be revised so please check again nearer to race day.

Come and experience the challenge of pushing yourself to your limits on our dedicated XC natural racing circuit. There is no greater thrill on a bike than to race against other competitors, and then experience the afterglow when you have ridden at an intensity you didn’t think you possessed. This is a day you will remember, and have you looking forward to the next event in our wonderful race series, where you can challenge yourself again.

This is grass roots mtb racing at its finest and we are proud to say it has been described as one of the friendliest racing series around. If this is the first time that you have raced then you will experience a warm welcome and lots of advice from the BFCC team.

Information about events

  • Anyone can race whether you are representing a club or riding as an individual.
  • There are races for all age groups starting from 8 + yrs to Super veterans (60+ yrs).
  • U8’s, U10’s & U12 race categories have their own individual races.
  • All adult race classes (senior, veteran Grand Veteran, Super Veteran and Women’s race classes) Start together in a mass start race structure. Youth and Junior race classes are fed into the adults race at the designated time’s detailed below.
  • During the final lap the leader will receive the bell for the last lap of the race so as to finish as near as possible to the hour mark and all riders will receive the bell on this final lap.
  • The race track is a separate track from the red & blue cycling trails. See link for directions.
  • Race HQ is in the club’s training area for registration and podium presentations.
  • We ask you kindly to stick around for the podium presentations afterwards as it’s all part of the experience. If you have podiumed and are unable to attend, we would also kindly ask you to notify one of our race officials.

11:45 am Under 10 Duration 10 minutes Small circuit
12:00 am Under 12 Duration 15 minutes Small circuit
12:30 pm Seniors, Juniors, Women, Veterans Duration 60 minutes Full circuit
12:45 pm Youth under 16 Duration 40 minutes Full circuit
13:00 pm Juvenile under 14 Duration 30 minutes Full circuit

Fees are as follows:

  • Under 8/10/12 £2
  • Under 14 £11
  • Under 16 £16
  • All senior £21

Races are on a dedicated singletrack in the woods separately from the Red Route and continue for about an hour when the first past the final flag is the overall winner. Places are also given to those in their related categories. Racing is good natured and entrants are from a full range of abilities. The Leader will receive the Bell so as to Finish as near as possible just over 60 minutes, all riders will receive the bell on this lap. The Race Distance will probably be 6 or 7 laps of the Full Circuit depending on conditions.

Rules

The series will be run as simply as possible, but there are a few points to help create a good environment for all to enjoy the racing.

  1. Everyone finishes on the same lap as the winner (stop at flag).
  2. There is a maximum field of 100 riders. So please arrive as early as possible and give yourself time to pre-ride the course.
  3. We will have qualified first-aiders on site, though we hope you won’t need them.
  4. You don’t need a race license or be affiliated to any club or governing body.
  5. The organisers will try to get provisional results out as soon as possible. We will post results on the club notice board and the website so riders can see what happened in the previous race.
  6. Forestry England parking fees apply; please follow the instructions from the FE parking marshals.
